Performance Based Reality... where we need to go"

Written by
Robert Faiello
Long before the current hue and cry for natural balance in the world commercial system the thought of creating a performance based organization was germinated and eventually evolved into the reality of Quantum Partners Inc. in 2007.

Organizations based on true performance are modeled on nature and the universe operating in balance and oneness with everything being interconnected.  The concept of oneness and balance may appear at first glance as a very broad leap from the world of Wall Street. However, extrapolating from creation, that all energy originates from one point or source and expanding forward the law of nature requires that there must be balance in the order of life.  The assertion is that a structured performance based system is necessary to bring order out of the chaos evidenced today.

The history of mankind is fraught with attempts to ignore the natural order of creation and nature.  War, fraud, and deception result in destruction and pain. In commerce, deception and fraud are inevitably followed by economic hardship, depression and despair.

The current burgeoning Wall Street meltdown, artificially postponed by 911, demonstrates the imbalance at the apex of our social, financial, political and regulatory institutions today.   Since all things are interconnected, there is no escape. This imbalance, or malaise, is created in an environment (Canada being no exception) where, as an example, the self interest,  deception  and greed of banks and investments banks are protected by government sanctioned regulators.  Laws are written to allow the regulator  to enforce rules that protect these financial institutions at the expense of the individual. Politicians who ultimately set the rules, lack the will to stand up against the interests of these banks and investment banks, otherwise known as money baggers.  Ultimately the greed and abusive use of power leads to a system where today the interests of those who have been entrusted to monitor have abrogated their responsibilities and as a result have caused today’s severe imbalance.  Total positive reconstruction of the entire system will commence by replacing all those who have enabled this malaise and by establishing new rules inculcating the mandatory vigilance required.

A performance based society rewards effort and results measured by the direct impact of positive social and financial change. For too long success has been married to the accumulation of financial wealth, while positive social impact was sorely neglected.

A performance based mechanism to ensure true constant balance in our society is necessary if we are to achieve a positive, foreseeable and sustainable existence.  While this notion may remind most of capitalism and associate the problems that have unfairly been laid at the door of capitalism, it is in fact the opposite.  In my opinion, our system which was initially developed to serve and protect the interests of each individual is being hijacked by those in positions of power and influence, primarily represented by major financial institutions (i.e. banks and investments banks), with rules written to insulate this power base through the veil of a self serving regulatory structure (as mentioned earlier) established by our political system.

Our political system has no accountability to its constituents.  We have a political system whereby those who are elected are expected to behave and act in the best interests of the people, effectively performing as our servants.  The inverse is true as we have become servants to our elected officials and they have become the masters.  A political system that has no limited accountability to its constituents until the next election, which in some cases can be as long as five years, offers elected officials the ability to operate with impunity allowing the constituents and a nation to languish until the next election.  We cannot completely blame our system as we are also accountable for our actions.  As mentioned earlier, we are all connected and all actions affect one another.  In this case, our apathy and disinterest in the political process and lack of vigilance over our elected officials and their use of power created the chaos we are witness to today.  This perpetual vacuum that we created is best evidenced during election time; when at that time, the power brokers and their representative interest groups seek to once again lull a completely disinterested public into perpetuating this imbalance of power at the expense of the majority of the people.  This further contributes to our previously stated problem thereby creating an imbalance of the highest order.  At this level, the stage is set for a universal shift or re-balance to occur in order to re-establish and  heal our existence.

Introducing a performance based mechanism into the political system would entail reigning in the political process so that votes are held regularly on all legislation.  In my opinion, the constituents should vote on every piece of legislation, similar to the concept of a referendum.  Also, elected officials should be measured by their ability to honour their commitments made when seeking office. (ie, keep their word ).  Performance in this manner would easily be measured by evaluating  their stated  plan against degree of fruition.
In order to restore balance to our system, we need to become more involved in all aspects of our political and regulatory systems and become much more vigilant over the political process and the regulatory and general oversight bodies that are created to serve our interests.  Experience has taught us that these bodies and entities are currently not in place to serve our best interests.  Positive reconstructive balance must be restored.

As mentioned previously, the business community, and more specifically, the financial institutions and their protectorate group, the regulatory body, have self indulged and created their own self perpetuating and one sided imbalanced existence.  Similarly, like the politicians and policy makers, this group benefits at the expense of the greater good. Once again, a nation and its people are sacrificed to this imbalance.  How many instances of corporate deception go unnoticed while being kept under the veil of secrecy and  being protected by their own regulatory body,  often referred to as the industry watchdog.  One clearly need only look closely into any charges laid by any regulatory body to determine that rarely does the leading and major bank and or investment bank (members of the club ) receive sanction.  It is most often the smaller firms and most often an individual who stands alone that  is charged with violation of a standard code while the sizable and influential  institution, or rather, should I say master of the regulatory body, is handed a minor if any reprimand  at all. It is often an individual within the organization who is sacrificed for the firm and is discarded without a second thought.  It is my observation that we have become lulled into believing that the system is in place to protect us, the people, the majority.  This is a complete fallacy.  The system exists to perpetuate the illusion that these financial institutions are safe and represent the highest good when in fact these institutions are completely based on self interest, and greed.  This group is anything but safe and will continually suppress the highest good at all costs.

A performance based model in the business world is actually quite common.  However, introducing a performance based model specifically into industries that touch key aspects of our everyday life, I believe is essential in order to perpetuate positive change and positive social impact.  Financial Institutions, Health Care, Chlid Care, Care for the Elderly, Energy and Food are some industries and or sectors that come to mind.  In addition, the regulatory bodies that oversee these industries must also be subject to the performance based mechanism.  We must ensure that a mechanism is in place that will restore balance and also ensure that power is used correctly and continuously.

In simple terms, as mentioned previously, the model should reward positive effort and measure meaningful and tangible results. Ultimately, the measure of all performance based models must include a measure of positive social impact.  Simply, without the creation of positive social impact, the value of any business or political effort is wasted effort.  Therefore it is imperative that in addition to profit and revenue targets being rewarded, a mechanism be established for measuring positive social improvement.  I believe that the targeted community should evaluate the success of the effort and determine the benchmarks as they are directly impacted.

There are many aspects to consider when introducing the concept of performance into our society.  We require radical change in order to restore balance into the system in which we exist.  We have relied far too long on the methods and practices of those in power without question and in blind faith.  This must change.
